Thirty-five minutes piece of analog modular composition by Thomas Ankersmit. His main instrument is the Serge, an analogue modular synthesizer. Acoustic phenomena, such as sound reflections, infrasonic vibrations and otoacoustic emissions, are an important part of his work. He used also various kinds of waveshaping, distortion and feedback and a patch matrix to control quick transitions. “Figueroa Terrace” offers a finely tuned and highly detailed sound, yet also visceral and raw. Marked by sharp perceptual contrasts, the suite shifts between dense formations of electric noise, to fields of smaller events, moving with an intuitive logic, and drones of overwhelming intensity. Call it synthesizer music.
